I am a sculptor working in Brighton and at Streat near Ditchling in Sussex.
I work in Sandstone, Limestone and Portland Stone.
My work is usually carved using handcarving tools such as chisels and claws.
All my work is produced in the Skelton workshops in Ditchling and at my own workshop in Brighton, from where I also teach.
I am interested in the figure, natural forms and the process of growth, movement and decay, whether in human or plant form. The ebb and flow of energy is revealed in the lines the carving tools leave etched on the surface of stone. In this way my work is organic, describing the changes the plant goes through, not the plant as fixed object.
The work has architectural and linear qualities often giving a feeling similar to drawing on the surface of stone. This reveals a tension and rhythm within the piece, whether in figurative or non figurative work.
The large scale figurative pieces, such as studies of the mother and child are responses to personal experience but convey universal ideas.
Sculptures can be lettercut with inscriptions. I also work to commission and sculptures can be sited
